Small Game Season

Details & restrictions

1. Hunting with centerfire rifles is allowed. 2. In the still hunt area, hunting wild hog with dogs is prohibited. 3. In the dog hunt area, wild hog may be hunted with dogs of any size. 4. Persons in possession of a SUA from the SRWMD may hunt raccoon or opossum at night with the aid of a light and dogs, with .22 rimfire firearms other than .22 magnum, or with a single-shot .410 shotgun using shot no larger than No. 6. Hunting raccoon or opossum by display or use of a light from a moving vehicle, boat or animal is prohibited. 5. Taking wildlife at night with a gun equipped with a thermal or night-vision device is prohibited.

Trapping

January 11–March 1

Licensed trappers may use .22 rimfire rifles or pistols to shoot a trapped furbearer.

General Restrictions5 items

Archery Season: 1. Only archery equipment may be used for hunting, except that centerfire and muzzleloading shotguns are allowed for hunting migratory birds and non-protected birds. Hunting with crossbows or airbows is prohibited (except by Persons With Disabilities Crossbow Permit).
General Gun Season: 1. In the still hunt area, hunting with dogs other than bird dogs is prohibited. 2. In the still hunt area, hunting wild hog with dogs is prohibited. 3. In the dog hunt area, hunting with dogs of any size or breed is allowed. 4. Hunting is allowed throughout the WMA, including the area south and east of McCalls Chapel Grade and east of East Mainline. 5. A valid WMA deer-dog hunting permit is required to hunt deer with the aid of dogs.
Muzzleloading Gun Season: 1. Hunting with archery equipment or guns, other than muzzleloading guns, is prohibited, except that centerfire and muzzleloading shotguns are allowed for hunting migratory birds and non-protected birds . 2. Hunting is prohibited in the dog hunt area.
Raccoon Season: Persons in possession of a SUA from the SRWMD may hunt raccoon or opossum at night with the aid of a light and dogs, with .22 rimfire firearms other than .22 magnum, or with a single-shot .410-gauge centerfire or muzzleloading shotgun using shot no larger than No. 6. Hunting raccoon or opossum by display or use of a light from a moving vehicle, boat or animal is prohibited.
Spring Turkey Season: 1. Legal shooting hours are ½ hour before sunrise until sunset. 2. Hunting other animals is prohibited. 3. Only bows, crossbows, PCP air guns propelling a bolt or arrow and centerfire and muzzleloading shotguns using a #2 or smaller shot size may be used for hunting.
